Coach Saunders and M-A Football receive State Senate recognition for their commitment to service learning in the community

COACH SAUNDERS AND M-A FOOTBALL RECEIVE STATE SENATE RECOGNITION FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO SERVICE LEARNING IN THE COMMUNITY

Presented to Coach Christopher Saunders and the Menlo-Atherton Football Program In recognition of your exceptional leadership and commitment to service-learning at Menlo-Atherton High School. As the originator of Sports Service Days, Coach Saunders inspired a tradition that grew from football to girls and boys basketball, flag football, water polo, and special programs across campus. On eight occasions throughout the summer, the M-A football team served at the Ecumenical Hunger Program in East Palo Alto. Players hustled in the summer sun, sorting and organizing fresh food and escorting families to their cars with their groceries, all with a smile. These experiences built trust, strengthened teamwork, and taught players that when we give with love, our efforts are received with love. Through humility, inclusion, respect, and reflection, they practiced ethical and effective service-learning, recognizing how much they gained from the people they served. Without seeking fanfare or recognition, Coach Saunders and his players strengthened the bonds within their team and throughout the M-A community. Their example reminds us that being a Bear means showing up for others with heart. Coach Saunders and the Menlo-Atherton football team are true heroes of our community, embodying the heart and spirit of M-A Bears.
